Polar Bear viewing on Barter Island is available year round, but seasonally (Peak Season) Kaktovik is one of best places to see polar bears in the wild.
Polar bear watching is available in the Spring, Summer and in the Fall after the Inupiat villagers have landed a bowhead whale on the beach for harvesting.
Besides (seasonal) Subsistence whaling other wildlife you may see include Fox, Wolf, Caribou and a variety of seabirds.
Fresh food is professionally prepared in our kitchen daily. Three hot meals, eat at your leisure in our dining room, or order take-out.
Cold or hot breakfasts, fruit, snacks and pastries are available.
The Inupiat people have survived thousands of years in one of the most severe climates on the planet.
Relying heavily on subsistence hunting and fishing, their tradition of sharing resources is not only considered an important tradition, it is one of the most fundamental values in the Inupiat culture.
